Recycle for back to school

Julian Garcia

THE COUNTRY | Manizales

Not all school supplies have to be new. Recover some leftovers from last year and save a little money. Go to school supply fairs and buy the cheapest.

Public schools cannot force the purchase of certain study material, nor to buy in a bookstore or specific store.

If the official educational center requires a list of orders, let the Secretary of Education in your jurisdiction know.

Remember that the State subsidizes school transportation, food and some supplies and uniforms.

Start the school calendar responsibly and abiding by the

biosecurity measures. Social distancing, proper use of face masks and disinfectant.

recycle backpack

Give a new life to the backpack left over from last year. If it's fabric, you can dye it to give it a better look.

The shoes

If the shoe isn't torn, and just looks worn, give it a good polish. You can paint it any color you want with leather dye. $3 thousand costs a bottle of shoe paint. Go to a shoemaker to remount the sole, or the heel and repair imperfections.

Uniform

If the shirt, pants, or jacket are still in good condition, do not throw them away. You can dye them and fix boots on pants and sleeves on shirts.

Sheets

Do not throw away photocopies. Cut the leaves in half if they are not used and stick them with a hook. This way you will make a notebook.

notebook for notes

Rescue the notebooks from the previous year and remove the used sheets, refine the edges. To give them a new look, line the covers with another paper, fabric, or foam.

school supply fair

Not everything should be bought at chain stores or stationery stores. Go to school fairs or bookstores. There they offer school supplies at low prices. Exchange stuff. You can exchange books, school supplies, or even uniforms with neighbors, friends, or relatives who have children who are one grade ahead.
