The art of layers, the perfect ally - Hoy Magazine

The multilayer style or layering, in English, has gone from being an impediment to dressing with style in winter, to being a faithful ally with which we can combine various garments in our wardrobe. But this very effective technique is not only based on clothing, but also on accessories and complements that give volume, texture and color to our daily looks.

However, for it to be our most faithful ally, we have to take risks in the combination of our clothes and thus we will have looks full of styles. However, you have to know some basic tips so that they are daring and elegant at the same time, and nothing ornate or tacky.

One of the first challenges that we can find is not knowing very well what to combine and how to do it. To do this, we must choose a base layer, an intermediate layer and the coat. That is to say, in the image we can see a narrow black t-shirt very close to the body, then a brown blazer and the last layer, the black leather jacket. Finishing off the look with a small white crossbody bag.

Although it may not seem like it, this outfit is a good outfit to combine several jackets at the same time. The blazer is spring and very light, as well as being long, which allows the leather jacket to be seen at all times. And the neck, by having it superimposed, gives an elegant and sophisticated touch. In this way, we can see the different colors and fabrics.

But how to combine so many colors and fabrics at the same time, preventing it from being shabby and tacky?

To begin with, it is better not to combine more than two oversize garments. It is good that we put together garments with different lengths and that they stand out from each other, but it would be a mistake to mix different patterns. A set that would draw more attention on its own, rather than the set itself.

As we see in the image, we can see four layers counting the bag, and all of them are the center of attention, highlighting the red plaid shirt. But if, on the other hand, we had mixed it with a sailor shirt, it would not have made much sense.

We also have to take into account the length of our garments that is not very similar. If one of the layers is longer than the rest, contrast it with a shorter one.

In the image we see how the leather blazer is shorter than the extra long white polka dot shirt. In addition, she also wears long jeans that give length to the look.

Layering or multilayering is a trendy way that we can use all year round, whether in winter or summer. The capes are both garments and accessories and complements. And there are multiple possibilities of combinations, we just have to remember. First, combine colors from the same chromatic range or take risks with a single color so that it attracts attention; use volumes to get more out of it; and finally to mix textures, but not prints. And then we will have achieved a catwalk look to wear in the Street style.
